Nature and science says that opposites attract and even I have always believed that they do. We get attracted to the those who are different from us and the ones those who can easily do things that we are not able to do . We become impressed by someone who has all the qualities that we lack and I guess they do feel the same. For instance, a person like me who takes a little time to get along to new people would soon be attracted to the one who can mingle with people very easily. At the same time, we get along with the one with the similar hobbies, preferences, choices, like if 2 people love reading, then in their case, the common love for books would bring them closer.
But then the question arises in the former case is that, how long does this attraction stays with the passage of time. Do opposites who have such huge differences between their ideas, thoughts, habits, way of thinking, are able to adjust with each other. Whereas in the case of the latter it may make us think that, won’t the 2 people get bored of their similarities eventually?
Well, almost all my uncles and aunts who have had successful marriage life are opposites. There is an aunty of mine who can not keep her mouth close for a second whereas her husband hardly opens his mouth and they are happily married. There is another aunt of mine who is too nice to be in this world and whose husband is very practical just apt for today’s world but he loves her to the core and completely understands and respects her.
There is something about the opposite people who are close to one another, like the fact that inspite of the differences, they love each other; the small disagreements; the fact that one complements the thing or the quality that the other one lacks; one is extrovert the other introvert; one likes to bargain other doesn’t; one thinks from heart other from the head and the list is almost endless. But at times they would crave for the one who understands them with less efforts.
On the other hand there are people who are like the Siamese twins, can read each other’s mind easily; almost think alike; hardly have to clearly oneself to the other; hardly have a quarrel as they both handles any situations in the same manner. But at times life would become boring.
Some how, I don’t think I can ever come to a conclusion in this matter.
Would like to know my readers views.

In nature there are few instances of the phenomenon which shows opposite do attract each other but nature also shows successful societies are formed when species share uniform traits and can work towards maximizing them. We being natural entities do exhibit both of the characteristics however relationship between living beings are very complex and more so in case of humans. Successful relationship is based on adjustment and adaptation to each other needs . It will need time and effort to continue a relationship after the initial spark burns out. Its like that plant which will need water, sun and manure to keep it alive and individuals under the relationship must put an effort to maintain it. So as long as this is done a relationship will be successful and it will not matter whether the persons share same or different traits. It about mutual understanding and giving each other space.
@ sushant
you have beautifully presented your point of view, infact i would say you have written far better than me.
and yes in the end ofcourse as you said - it is the mutual understanding and giving each other space :)
i second suahant...well put.
i also believe that life is one thing that cannot be theorized. so trying to evaluate one trait over another may prove futile.... heck.. life is full of surprises..!!
ive heard people say.. "we just connected..", i guess it would be possible to draw up a list of conclusions as to how the connection came by... but then there is always a magical factor involved... and it holds its charisma, in simply not getting noticed..!
well, i would go for "opposites attract", just because of the fact that it seems to be more exciting...
by the way, you said...
"There is an aunty of mine who can not keep her mouth close for a second whereas her husband hardly opens his mouth and they are happily married."
Well, it applies to all uncles and aunties who are living a happy married life...Aakhir chup rehane ke bhi fayade hote hain... :P
@ thinker
certainly life is full of surprises!! and the magical factor told by you is so true !!
very well penned down by you too:)
@ abhinav
before a while even i thought that nothing like " opposites attract" but then on giving a deeper thought, one realises that there is a lot more to it than just being opposites or similar , like sharing a rapport, understanding and the likes :)
