Last week, learnt a very good thing which really affects our life, but most of the people, like me, are hardly aware of it. Unconsciously we are creating problems for us and our life.
The thing that I learnt is the importance of “minimalism” in all walks of our life. Very few people are aware that this has become a new trend now - a - days, though it is not yet much popular. It is a very nice practice wherein we just have to keep all the things in as minimum as possible and it also means money and wealth up to a certain extent. There are many dull aspects attached with having more of anything, one is - the more you have, the more you want. Next would be - the more you have, the more stressed you will feel to take its care and eventually it brings you tension. It is more or less similar to the saying like “ Less is More” or applying the KISS attitude which means ( Keep It Simple Stupid ! ).
The idea of minimalism can be applied to having the less of the smallest of things like pens, clothes, purses, perfumes, shoes and millions of other our day to day usage things, to having less money // wealth or at least having less number of back accounts even if you are filthy rich.
Taking a small instance of say a person fond of clothes and he has a huge cup board filled with it, he will have to maintain and take care of them a lot ( even if he does not himself wash and iron and maintains his clothes , atleast he has to give it to his servant to do that. The ultimate responsibility is his) which will give him a burden, though it is a small one. And at a time how many clothes or shoes can a person wear? Then clever ness is buying them in lesser quantity.
Also if you have more money why dont donate some of your things to the poor and needy or if possible why dont you buy them some, if you are really finding excuses to spend a portion of your never ending wealth.
Today, we can see that people run behind achieving money, material possessions, power, all of which is very good but in its moderate quantity. Nothing in excess is good, not even love, as some say.
Though this is not directly related to my topic, by being hoarders, we sustain all the negativity around us which affects our personal life in a negative. This is the reason why our mums shout at us for keeping our rooms and cupboards and drawers clean. Having a shabby and cluttered room or wardrobe results in a shabby life.
A person who likes to collect and purchase a lot of things be it, books, pens, clothes and the likes , I have now decided to keep things with me only that is extremely required and in the quantity that I can manage.
That is why someone has rightly said that : You can't have everything - where would you put it?
After learning such a nice concept my heart and mind tells me to follow it in as many cases as possible except for books and money (who in todays world is going to wish less money :) )

So true. Many of us have ceased to enjoy the simple things in life, especially the ones from the urban society.
In the pursuit to achieve more, we often forget to appreciate what we have with us. As they say, one would never realize the real worth of eyes until one loses it.
The concept of keeping something aside for the lesser privileged section of the society is indeed great. As I had read in some blog, when you buy 10 notebooks, buy 1 extra notebook and give it to a orphan. Such small things do make a lot of difference.
Having known you through your posts, I know that you have a kind heart for such people and you are doing your bit in small yet significant ways.
Being a teacher, I hope you end up spreading this message to all your students.

minimalism, is a way of life. and should be accepted in spirit. so why leave out money from the bracket....
@ a new philosopher..
I know money also comes under the material things and infact i also believe that to possess all the things in abundance, first and foremost we need the money, but at the same time, we also increase our security of life by having more money . isnt it ???
Hi there,

@sunil
thanks and best luck for your exams:)
minimalism in words is one thing...
for me minimalism became a habit after visiting an orphanage some time back...
it was a life changing experience...
humans are innately competitive. and minimalism doesnt fit in when it comes to mindless wealth.
can only hope for everyone to share similar views...
@ the thinker
so very true, that we all are innately compitive. At times, we spend our time and money behind purchasing the things that we are never going to use but just to make someone jealous and show others. :)
