Was just getting bored at work today as there was less work. Therefore started reading something, as usual. And happened to come across an old copy of Readers Digest and read an article that is apt for todays world. The article was about the loneliness a person experiences living in todays world because of the way we communicate has undergone a drastic change. Mobiles, internet, i-pods are actually disconnecting us from the whole world instead of making us come in contact with the people around us.
It is a very common sight to find people with their mobiles phones, some still do it just to appear COOL. I don’t understand that why should a person talk too much to the one who is miles and miles away from him when the one sitting or standing right next to him feels left out and is neglected. The article cited such an example : two friends were strolling in a park one fine and beautiful evening, enjoying the nature around them and the conversation and the phone of one of the friends rang and he got busy breaking the conversation theirs. During their whole walk the other friend silently kept walking.
Once I heard my cousin making fun of his mom when her phone rang. He told me to rush and give the phone to his mom. I asked,”but why are you telling me to rush?” He said “Her phone hardly rings, so let her pick it up”. Today not to have enough calls is regarded as something that is out of fashion.
Why go far and give examples of others. Though I am not much addicted to my cell phone but I am certainly addicted to internet. When ever I get time, I am on internet. This has lessened my reading as well. And believe me I am really upset by it. Mom always yells why do u sit in front of your p.c and spoil your eyes but I never listen to her. On the contrary I insist her to learn. But I know she is never going to learn it.:)
Last week, my comp broke down and had to give to the repair man and it took almost a week to come back to my house. For one or two days I was really finding it hard to kill the time without my companion. And wasnt even comfortable at all without checking my mails and blogging. It sort of irritated me , knowing fully that such irritation shouldnt happen over a thing like internet. Daily before going to bed I use net and then read and then go to sleep. But since last week p.c wanst there , I actually went out with my family or watched T.V with them. During this interval of not using p.c , atleast I got to watch “ the x-files”, which I now watch regularly. I realised that time we spend is to be spend beautifully doing things that gives us pleasure and not making us their slaves and taking us away from our family.
That week really taught me that there is a life beyond internet. Not that I sit for hours and hours on net. But whatever amount of time I spend on it shouldn’t become an addiction to me. Thank God it certainly hasn’t.

True indeed, technology would have made this world shorter by reducing the distance between people miles apart, but it also has increased the distance between people around us.
Hope your PC gets crashed once in a while... :P
@abhinav
noooooo,i dont want my p.c to get crashed.(jus kokin). I learnt the lesson.LOL:)
well, nice read.. ur abso rite, we've got ourselves involved too much into these gizmos that we have forgotten wht it means to keep in tuch with ppl on a personal note..
even i feel v v bored when i do not have access to net, bt then its ok.. internet for me is another medium of keeping in tuch with ppl and get in tuch with new ones... blogging, orkutting, facebook, etc etc etc.. many mediums are there...
Now sorry to say this, bt i think u totally deviated from the topic 'loneliness' .. well u mentioned one reason why ppl nowerdaz do not meet new ppl, or do not take out time, as they are too much glued into things like: phone, internet, blogs... etc. Not that something like blogging is not good, i m certainly not saying that, bt then... bigger point is here:
People like me, who loves to make friends, prefers to meet new ppl, are totally off it now... i can't, coz ppl on the other side aren't willing to.. there are few, bt not many these daz... we are becoming lonely now, living such a compartmentalized life (as some1 on my blog commented).. which certainly is not happening :)

P.S. : No offense to any one please :)
@ rohit
first let me thank you , u felt my post as a nice read.
you are partially rite
but with lonliness i meant that when we have people around us who are waiting to talk to us , waiting to spend time with us, we are making them lonley and making ourselves aloofed with these gadgets.
even i think , these social sites like orkut and then blogging is a good way to make frnds and all. :)
@rohit jain
Your perspective seemed to be different from hers. She was refering to our ending up ignoring or over looking people close to us. It wasn't about taking away our loneliness from us by meeting new people.
Moreover, in the run of meeting new people and making new friends, we at times leave behind our old friends and people close to us.
PS:My personal opinion.NOM.
